CBIE 2009 CONFERENCE
Supporting the education sector in the pursuit of international education initiatives, CBIE offers a first-class conference - packed with the latest developments in international education. Through our conferences, we give voice to national and cross-border issues and priorities in international education. Professional development and networking are a key component of CBIE's annual conference. We offer practical and theoretical sessions on international education in its broadest sense.

THEME: Internationalization Effectiveness: Strategies for success
As the world confronts deepening economic, environmental, social and political challenges, the need for citizens with a global perspective has never been greater. Educational institutions play a central role in cultivating international awareness and leadership skills for peaceful negotiation and problem-solving. Universities, colleges and schools are engaging in internationalization activities designed to prepare a new generation of global citizens who can contribute to world-wide development, improving the lives of all. They are attempting a range of strategies: developing institutional strategies that engage everyone including institutional leaders; adding new courses and programs, while internationalizing others; identifying regions of interest and building partnerships that engage faculty and students; increasing the international student population as a percentage of total enrolment; improving services for international students and for Canadian students wishing to study abroad; linking with the international community through research and other collaborative initiatives of global importance. At the same time, institutions know that they face a declining local youth cohort, a factor that makes recruiting international students a popular feature of institutional planning.

The 2009 CBIE conference will provide the opportunity to reflect on how effective we are at internationalization across the board. It will showcase best practices and recent research. It will offer the opportunity to share ideas and innovations for effectiveness among participants from an array of countries, including many who have existing partnerships with institutions in Ontario and in Canada, and those with an interest in exploring such connections.
